Error when using saxonB

Hello there,

I'm new to SaxonB. I just installed it and am running into some errors when executing it trying to convert an XML file to HTML format.

Here is the command that I am using:

        %java -jar ~/saxon8-6/saxon8.jar -a xxx.xml > xxx.html

and this is the error message:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.InternalError: Unexpected exception while defining class net.sf.saxon.TransformerFactoryImpl: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.xml.transform.sax.SAXTransformerFactor

at 0x005c0ca3: java.lang.Throwable.Throwable(java.lang.String) (/usr/lib/./libgcj.so.3)
at 0x005b3b1e: java.lang.Error.Error(java.lang.String) (/usr/lib/./libgcj.so.3)
at 0x005c1086: java.lang.VirtualMachineError.VirtualMachineError(java.lang.String) (/usr/lib/./libgcj.so.3)

and so on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!
Hock

Try running with Sun's java rather than gcj and see if the error
disappears.
gcj isn't nearly as mature.

Error when using saxonB
Recent releases of Saxon require Java JDK 1.4 or later. The class javax.xml.transform.saxon.SAXTransformerFactory has been part of the Java platform since JDK 1.3. You might find that it's available as a separate package with your Java implementation; but you're likely to hit other problems using a Java implementation that doesn't meet the JDK 1.4 specification.

Thanks for the input, Michael. I'm actually using JDK 1.5. Is there any other explanation for this?

Re: Error when using saxonB

Based on this: "java.lang.Throwable.Throwable(java.lang.String) (/usr/
lib/./libgcj.so.3)" you are using gcj, which is known to be buggy.
Try java -version to confirm this, then try sun's or ibm's java.

Wolfgang.

All I can tell you is that it's an error that I haven't seen before and it seems to be in some way related to your Java VM setup.
